I am wondering if the author of these books is an atheist. His writings are very confusing. He is critical of both religious folks and athesits.

Site Admin: The answer is yes and no. By atheist, if you mean not believing in a Personal God (with a capital P), then yes, the author is an atheist. If you mean by atheist, not believing in a god who listens to peoples' prayers and does favors, a god who is capable of breaking laws of nature by performing miracles, then yes, the author is an atheist. If you mean by atheism, believing that morality is simply biological, then yes, the author is certainly an atheist.
On the other hand, If you mean by an atheist,a person who lacks appreciation for poetry, music, and love, someone who is without emotions, someone who thinks there is no room for spirituality in life and that only the fittest will survive and that morality is always either all subjecive or all objective, and that science will solve all our problems in this world, then the author is definitely NOT an atheist. The author believes that only secular forms of religious practices are the best practices because they do not incorporate superstitions propagandized by organized religions.
We encourage you to listen to the author's discourses that he has given over the years in the Center for the Study of Life's Higher Purpose, an entity that he founded 20 years ago. We ask you to join this movement if you are in agreement with authors' views. Center for the Study of Life's Higher Purposes has now become one of the collaborative projects of Singh Global Initiatives.

Higher Purpose in life does not refer to supernaturalism, mysticism or some sort of transcendentalism. Higher purpose in life is to become well informed, learning from science about all the wonders of our world and make a deliberate choice to pass on this knowledge to your children and grandchildren besides teaching them how to be a kind and caring human being. No superstition is necessary to achieve any of this. Love and kindness, no doubt, is the only true spirituality that there is.
God (or equivalent terms) are just words that have been invented by human cultures that refer to something that is outside the scope of tools of science. The question "why we are here' may still remain even if science ends up explaining everything that needs explaining. One can ask: Is the "why" question even the right question to ask? Could this be a wrong question? Is it likely that this question exist because we evolved to ask this question; is it possible that the question was necessary for survival in terms of motivating us to make progress. Or does the question simply exist because of our anxiety and the fear of dissolution? According to science, it is a simply a wrong question, therefore a misleading one.
